Embarking Oceanwide Expeditions’ Plancius 1/19/26 Monday Day 1
We are finally on the Plancius! It is super windy here today, and after everyone was on the ship, the Coast Guard closed the port and no one was allowed to leave. So we all had some extra time to explore the ship before our mandatory lifeboat drill and dinner.

The ship is modern, quaint, and comfortable. Our room is in the superior category on the top deck (read: extra motion!) There is lots of storage, and all the tables and flat surfaces in the ship (including the dining tables) are covered in sticky shelf liner. I think that might be an omen of some kind. There is a lovely large dining room, and breakfast and lunch are served buffet style. The observation lounge is a large sunny room with access to decks right outside, and a small bar. There is coffee and tea available24/7. They have an open bridge policy, and passengers are allowed to enter the bridge anytime. We also have free Wifi, but it’s not the fastest.

We finally set sail down the Beagle Channel at 8 pm, about two hours after our planned departure. So far, we can barely tell we’re on a ship, so we’ll see what tonight and tomorrow brings us! We are heading north to the Falkland Islands for our first stop on Wednesday.

Great photos – looking forward to following along!
Thank you Donna! We’re having a great time!
Looking forward to reading about your trip north to the Falklands. When we did our first Antarctica expedition in 2007, we were on an itinerary similar to yours and our roughest seas were between Ushuaia and the Falklands.
