Sailing into the Westerlies 1/20/26 Tuesday Day 2
Today was a sea day as we are traveling north in the Westerlies (the prevailing winds) to the Falkland Islands. You may recall the 1982 conflict between the British and the Argentinians, who both lay claim to the island chain. Basically, nothing changed with the war, and quite a few people died. The Falklands, along with South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, all remain British Overseas Territories.
It was super windy last night and all day today, with winds around 33 MPH. The outside decks were closed, so no one was allowed to go outside. There are A LOT of people who are not well on this ship today, including yours truly. The Scopolamine patch wasn’t quite cutting it for me, so I had to add some Zofran to the mix. I had a piece of toast this morning, and a piece of bread and butter for lunch, and just laid in bed most of the day. This ships feels like that Vomit Comet ride at the county fair. There are emesis bags strategically placed in all the rails all around the ship. It’s almost like they’ve done this before. We just had dinner and I am starting to feel a bit better.

Steve is feeling fine. He put on his Scop patch last night before we went to bed, whereas I waited until this morning when I wasn’t feeling very well to put mine on. Be like Steve. Don’t be like me.
The staff had several interesting lectures for us today. The first one that Steve attended at 9 am was on the Falkland Islands. Our expedition leader lived there for about 16 years and still owns a house there. There are about 3400 people living there now. The next one at 11 am was on Whales and Dolphins, and I was feeling a bit better by then, so we both attended that one.
After lunch I wasn’t doing so well again, (that’s when I finally took the Zofran) and Steve attended the lecture on all the seabirds that inhabit the islands we will be visiting. I spent the afternoon lying down, and then we attended the mandatory Zodiac briefing before dinner. If I had had to feel unwell, today was the day to do it, since we had no Zodiac cruises or landings today. Looking forward to our first outing in the Zodiacs tomorrow morning.

Like what you read? Hate it? Please leave us a comment below, but don’t be bitchy. Happy Travels!

I sometimes get nauseous turning around in my desk chair too quickly. It’s gonna be a big no from me. Penguins look cool though! 😅
It definitely takes some getting used to! :)
Sorry to read that you had a tough day on the way to the Falklands.
