Traveler, Planner, and Blogger Ava Larkins
Ava was born in Indiana and raised on a small family farm with pigs, chickens, and three siblings. She is a Master’s prepared RN who retired from practicing in cardiovascular surgery in 2024 after a 32 year career. She always dreamed of exploring the world, and together with her husband Steve, they are making these dreams a reality. Ava is the slightly obsessive planner, organizer, list keeper, reservation maker, photographer, and writer behind Two Travel Over 50. When she is not traveling, blogging, or planning the next adventure, Ava is busy tending her small garden, floating in the pool, obsessing over merino wool clothing, making a packing list, enjoying an Aperol Spritz, petting the rescue dogs, and mellowing out on Yacht Rock.
Traveler and Pack Mule Steve Larkins
Steve was born in central California and raised near Yosemite National Park, where he spent his youth backpacking and hiking. He is an Air Force Academy grad and veteran (Go Falcons!), and an international airline captain who has seen the entire world from the inside of a hotel room. When he and Ava married in 2007, they decided to make it their mission to actually experience the world. Happy to be behind the scenes, Steve is the level headed quiet voice of reason, occasional videographer, proofreader, and pack mule behind Two Travel Over 50. When he’s not traveling for work or pleasure, Steve is busy reading, watching fútbol (AKA soccer), playing a video game, doing projects around the house, enjoying a gin and tonic, petting the rescue kitties, and jamming to 80’s New Wave.
We enjoy sharing our experiences to help others. We post in-depth, first hand accounts of our travels, “real people” packing advice based on our successes and failures, travel tips we’ve learned along the way, plus recommendations of products and companies that we have used. We won’t bore you with lots of nonsense stuff you don’t care about, but will get straight to the point in our articles. We have no advertising or affiliate links.
