Livorno and Tuscan Winery

Tuesday 4/28/26 Day 2

We arrived in the port city of Livorno this morning, and the ship will overnight here tonight. We booked Viking’s optional Day in Tuscany tour and it did not disappoint.  We left Livorno about 10 am and headed into the countryside to the San Donato winery estate, where we had lunch and enjoyed a wine tasting. The Chianti and the Vin Santo Dessert wine are to die for! 

After all of us had too much to drink, they took us to the village of San Gimignano and made us walk up a hill in the sun. The nerve of these tour guides! Just kidding of course, but it did get quite warm this afternoon and we did drink a lot then walk a lot. It’s 78 deg F here today. The village is on a hilltop and surrounded by vineyards and olive trees as far  as the eye can see. The views were spectacular! We had a guided tour of the city followed by some free time for gelato and shopping. 

It was a full day excursion, and we didn’t return to the ship until almost 7 pm, so we went to the World Cafe and had some sushi for dinner. They make pretty good sushi on the Viking Mars!
