En Route to South Georgia Island 1/23/26 Friday Day 5
Today was a nice leisurely day sailing toward South Georgia Island. The seas are a bit rough and we are rolling about 10 degrees back and forth. Our cabin is on the top deck, so it sure feels a lot worse than that. I had trouble sleeping last night with all the rolling, plus the pitch and yaw movements aren’t much fun either! From what I understand, this is quite mild compared to the Drake Passage. Steve’s Scop patches are still working great, and most people seem to have recovered from the rough seas we had on our first day. I took mine off after three days as it gave me a super dry mouth, and I’m doing OK without it. A little bit if nausea, and have taken a Zofran here and there, but overall OK.

We attended three interesting lectures from the expedition staff. Topics were South Georgia, Fur Seals, and Ernest Shackleton. We also watch a BBC documentary called Ice World, narrated by David Attenborough. We spent some time outside and also in the bridge. They have an open bridge policy so the passengers can go up there anytime. I thought that was pretty cool, and unlike the big cruise ships where you may get a bridge tour if you’re lucky. Our weather continues to exceed our expectations, as it’s still sunny and in the high 50s F. We are enjoying about 17 hours of sunlight each day on this part of the trip. Tomorrow is another sea day as we sail on to South Georgia.
